Özet
Rus siyasi, askeri ve kültürel tarihine damga vurmanın yanı sıra; “sanat koleksiyonculuğu” kavramını, kendi döneminde zirveye taşıyan bir kadın varsa; şüphesiz ki bu şahsiyet çariçe Büyük Katherina’dır. 18. yüzyılda, neredeyse tüm Avrupa’yı saran Aydınlanma Çağı’nda, 1762’den 1796 yılına kadar hüküm süren II. Katherina, tüm zamanların en büyük sanat koleksiyoncularından biri haline gelmiş; tahta çıktıktan birkaç yıl sonra dünyanın o zamanlar gördüğü en cüretkâr koleksiyon satın alma programına girişmiştir. Katherina, birçoğu büyük ustalara ait olan resimleri, çizim ve gravürleri, çeşitli sanat eseri koleksiyonlarını, Avrupa’nın çeşitli yerlerinde görevlendirdiği kişiler -bir nevi sanat simsarları- aracılığıyla satın almıştır ve koleksiyonlarını sergilemek üzere Ermitaj Müzesi’nin kurulmasını sağlamıştır. Katherina’nın siyasi arenadaki hırsı kimi zaman öyle bir hal almıştır ki; bir koleksiyonu sırf siyasi rakiplerine üstün gelmek üzere edinmekten bile çekinmemiştir. Bu çalışmada Katherina’nın yaşamı ve Rus siyasi tarihindeki rolüne ek olarak, çağının Aydınlanma yanlısı entelektüelleriyle olan ilişkisi, bazı sanat koleksiyonlarını satın almak üzere yaptığı girişimler ve Ermitaj Müzesi’nin kuruluş sürecine yer verilmiştir.

Abstract
In addition to marking the Russian political, military and cultural history; if there is a woman who brought the concept of art collecting to the top in her time, undoubtedly this personage is the Czarina Catherine the Great. In the Age of Enlightenment, which surrounded almost all of Europe in the 18th century, only a few years after her enthronement, Catherine II become one of the greatest art collectors of all time and she embarked on the most daring purchasing program the world had ever seen. Catherine bought the art works painted by great masters, drawings, engravings and various large art collections through the people she had assigned to various parts of Europe -some kind of art dealers- and ensured the establishment of the Hermitage Museum to exhibit her collections. Catherine’s ambition in the political arena has sometimes become such that; she did not even hesitate to acquire a collection just to overcome his political rivals. In this study, in addition to the life of Catherine II and her role in Russian political history, her relationship with the Enlightenment proponent intellectuals of her age, her attempts to obtain some art collections and the establishment process of the Hermitage Museum are examined.
