Abstract

Traces of Mother Archetype in Didem Madak’s Poems
The archetypes that are called “Analytical Psychology” by Carl Gustav Jung in his psychology studies are behavior patterns transferred from past to today. The archetypes that are accepted as “primary pattern/model” are the codes of common/collective unconsciousness. Therefore, they are seen in each individual regardless of race, language, religion, class, gender, and era. The archetypes connecting personal to global comprise the common heritage. The mother archetype is featured with impressing in human life and exists in the common heritage. The effects of mother archetype continue starting from birth of person up to death. Didem Madak who has used mother archetype in poems lost her mother while she was very little, and lost her life soon after her 40s while her daughter was three years old. Thus, Didem Madak has reflected pain of being motherless to her works. The three works that collect Didem Madak’s poems are titled as Grapon Kâğıtları (2000), Ah’lar Ağacı (2002) and Pulbiber Mahallesi (2007). The poet has dedicated her each book to particular persons as did as for her poems. In this study, all the poems existing in the mentioned three books are surveyed considering mother archetype that has been outlined by Carl Gustav Jung, and outcomes are evaluated.
