Abstract
Gendering is one of the issues that philosophy and psychoanalysis emphasize in the construction of the subject in the symbolic field. Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, Julia Kristeva, Luce Irigaray, Judith Butler, Alenca Zupancic, Slavoj Zizek talk about the functioning of gendering in the construction of the subject at different levels. According to Lacan, the price the subject must pay for its construction, that is, for its entry into the field of reality, is gendering. Therefore, the process of subjectivation overlaps with gendering. In the process of gendering, masculine and feminine structures appear as two important elements in the construction of the social field. However, with modern science, this Great Other and Other/masculine and feminine gendering established around the idea of essentialism has become ambiguous and the construction of the field of reality through gendering has been deconstructed. Around the idea of essentialism, the feminine is defined within a structure positioned as the Other relative to the masculine. In the feminist discourse of the 1960s-70s, the woman in the position of the Other is attempted to be equalized with the masculine. However, this egalitarian discourse is transformed within the poststructuralist discourse of thinkers such as Derrida, Foucault, Lacan, Kristeva and Irigaray, and the egalitarian discourse that positions the woman as the Other is replaced by the difference against the same. In the novel The Kürk Mantolu Madonna by Sabahattin Ali, one of the most important figures of our modern literature, this ambiguity about gendering around the main characters Raif and Maria Puder draws attention. In the novel, Raif sometimes appears in a feminine construction with his feminine characteristics, while Maria Puder draws attention with masculine indicators. In this article, the ambiguities about gender in the construction of Raif and Maria Puder will be evaluated through images, sensations and discourse under the headings of the image of the dead mother, the dysfunctionality of the father's name, remaining a child and less than nothing, masking and the image of the unnecessary man.
