Abstract
All texts based on narrative are basically based on a “plot” and a “narrator”. Considering that the interpretation of the story, the language used in the story and the style of the author are not independent of the narrator, the indispensability of the narrator for the literary texts based on the narrator naturally necessitates examining the position of the narrator. If this narrator also has an unusual quality, it attracts more attention. Some poets and writers construct their characters’ selves through established object relations. This interest in the object has, in time, gone even further in modern texts and enabled the object to gain a “narrator” identity. The type of narrative, in which inanimate objects and animals serve as the main characters equipped with consciousness, is referred to with names such as “novel of circulation, it-narrative, object narrative, object tales” in 18th century English literature. In such works, objects and animals typically seem to tell their own life stories, but in the background their biographies always focus on the stories of others. Among the reasons why the object narrator is loved and often preferred by the writers is the ability of these objects to move between classes and ranks in a way that no human can do, and to be the narrator of the story of people from every status. Another reason for preference is that the object narrator can sometimes undertake a satirical and sometimes didactic function. As a matter of fact, the object narrator enables the reader to approach the subject from a different perspective by empathizing with it by reflecting the situation that can be experienced by an object. However, a non-human narrator who does not have the ability to speak increases the literary pleasure and interest of the reader who has a different experience by breaking the habits and alienating the reader. In this study, first of all, it is discussed whether there are similar examples of the object narrator tradition, which is stated to have started with circulation novels in the 18th century, in classical Turkish literature. Then, the work titled Aryballos: A Tale About the Vase, Black Bug, Thistle and Snake (Ancient Güzelleme to İzmir) prepared and written by Archaeologist Güven Bakır, which sets an example for circulation narratives in recent Turkish literature, was analyzed in the context of the object narrator.
